Adjustment lighting warehouse Controlin

More than a year ago, our company expanded with an office building. The lighting was not optimal, so we came up with a solution together with Emerson Appleton.

In order to meet the increasing demand for fast product delivery to our customers and to accommodate all our staff, it became clear to us that an expansion of our office building was necessary. A larger warehouse was particularly desirable so that we could stock the product groups that were in great demand. When the office building next to our existing office building became available, the choice to move into that building was quickly made. The new building is almost identical to our first office building, but has a more favorable layout and therefore a larger warehouse. So a win-win situation.

The old situation brought quite a few disadvantages

Once we had set up everything and were fully operational, the lighting, consisting of 14 pieces of 2x58W open TL fixtures, turned out not to be optimal in the warehouse. The following problems and disadvantages literally became clear:

  • Poor distribution of light because all luminaires were mounted in one line. These were also mounted asymmetrically in relation to the work surface;
  • The light output on the work surface was far too low;
  • In terms of maintenance, the height at which the luminaires hung presented a challenge. The fixtures were hung at a height of 6 meters, which meant that an aerial work platform had to be rented to carry out maintenance;
  • Because the luminaires were mounted diagonally above the rack and not above the path, some lamps were also hardly accessible;
  • The fluorescent tubes from the old situation had a short lifespan (+-10,000 hours). This meant that replacement had to take place more often than desired. One fluorescent tube then becomes relatively much more expensive.

The solution is completely drawn out

Because the luminaires could not be replaced one-on-one, but also had to be moved, we designed a new lighting plan. DiaLux was used for this, a program that provides a nice overview of the new desired situation. Another important decision that we have included in the solution is switching from fluorescent to LED. We have opted for 9 pieces of LED fixtures of 7000 Lumen. Luminaires that also have closed housings.

The result brought relief

Due to the transition from fluorescent to LED, a large reduction in power has been achieved. The power has been reduced by almost 70% from 14x140 (1960W) to 9x66 (594W). The lifespan of the LED fixtures will normally, under extreme atmospheric conditions, be at least 6 times as long as the old fluorescent fixtures. Naturally, normal atmospheric conditions prevail in our warehouse, so in practice the lifespan will even be 8 to 10 times longer. Due to the improved light distribution, a higher efficiency is also achieved on the desired work surface. Finally, thanks to the closed housings, the luminaires are less affected by temperature fluctuations and possible vibrations.

LED luminaires that can also be used in ATEX-certified environments
