Digester installation in Holwerd

For a digester installation at dairy farm Antonides, Bredenoord and Controlin designed the control system for the CHP plants.

In 2011, a digester plant was built in Holwerd at the farm Antonides. This dairy farm had 220 dairy cows at that time. The manure from these cows is pumped to two digesters. The manure is mixed with corn and other co-products. Biogas is generated in these digesters, which is then transported to two gas engines.

Technical data of the digester plant

  • Digester 1: diameter 22 m, height 7 m;
  • Digester 2: diameter 30 m, height 7 m;
  • Cogeneration plants 1: 430 kWe;
  • Cogeneration Plants 2: 805 kWe.

Cogeneration plants are designed to run at capacity power as much as possible. Often this is difficult because the gas quality can vary greatly. Therefore Bredenoord BioEnergy B.V. has designed a control system in which the gas quality has no influence on the performance of the gas engines.

This centre controller of this control system is the ComAp IS-NT. For the gas control, Bredenoord BioEnergy bv developed its own interface that communicates with the IS-NT.

At the digester plant in Holwerd, the original motor controller was replaced by this control system.

In its short existence, Bredenoord BioEnergy B.V. has delivered 60 cogeneration plants and has 3 new plants on order. These installations have been placed in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Turkey. Bredenoord BioEnergy bv is part of Bredenoord bv.
