The fire extinguisher system is a diesel powered hydraulic power pack fire extinguisher kit in accordance with NFPA 20 requirement. The hydraulic pump drives the water pump at a pressure of 240 bar. This water pump delivers 600m3 per hour at 13 bar. Air inlet and outlet valves are controlled by the engine control unit and at the same time the position report of these valves is monitored. A number of sensors, including thermostats and level switches, control the hydraulic-oil pre-heating element.
On the advice of Controlin, Holland Special Pumps deployed the ComAp ID-DCU Industrial motor controller for the control of the diesel engine. The ID-DCU engine controller features a CAN J1939 communication interface that communicates directly with the Caterpillar engine management (ECU). The measurement values of the engine management, such as lubricant pressure, cooling water temperature and fuel consumption can be easily read on this ID-DCU. In addition, a remote display (ID-RD made by ComAp) is linked to the controller on which the same values are displayed.
As Holland Special Pumps has good experience with the Controlin support team, the team was involved in the project again. Holland Special Pumps asked Controlin to assist with the programming, engineering and part of the drawing work for the system. Together with Marco Kuiper of Holland Special Pumps, the last thing that was carried out on site was the commissioning of the fire extinguishing system. The cooperation between Holland Special Pumps and Controlin has been to our complete satisfaction and we will be happy to work together again in future projects.
